This week's happenings...

FUERZA BARCA!!!!! I LOVE THIERRY HENRY!!!!

From Thrillist:
Watch/Drink: UEFA Soccer Championship Finals Today
2pm deals, 2:45 kickoff
The Irish Times, 5850 Sunset Dr, South Miami; 305.667.4114
Blow off work to watch Manchester United v. Barcelona live from Rome with 2-for-1 domestic beer, wine, and well drinks, discounted import suds, a free halftime buffet of finger food apps, and 50% off other select apps like Rasher's Potato Skins, Black & Tan-battered onion rings, fried mozz, and "cranky" fried calamari -- hey, you'd be cranky too if you were boiled in oil, then sold for half price. Go to UEFA.com for more footie deets

Eat:
Taste Of The Gables kicks off Coral Gables Restaurant Week
Taste of the Gables: Fri, 6 to 9pm, 65 Miracle Mile (Tarpon Bend breezeway);
Restaurant Week: June 1 to 14, participating restos
"Taste" kicks off Coral Gables' Resto Week with free grub like blue crab-crusted mahi from Tarpon Bend, sliders and wings from The Sports Exchange, and smoked bratwurst from Fritz & Franz Bierhaus, as well as live Latin jazz from the Negroni's Trio. The Week then continues with prix fixe menus cutting at least 20% off spots like Caffe Abbracci, Da Vittorio, Fleming’s Prime, Ortanique On The Mile, Por Fin, Red Koi, Les Halles, and Bangkok Bangkok II, which probably stars Chris Tucker. Go to CoralGablesRestaurantWeek.com for full deets

Change is Good:
News Cafe is now Local 55 Lounge 5588 NE 4th Ct, Miami; 305.758.9932
Local 55 keeps News Cafe's shadowy, palm-laden lounge vibe but jacks up the menu with apps like Parma prosciutto w/ fresh mozz and basil, duck liver pate w/ Brie, and tuna tartare w/ Dijon lemon dressing, plus sandwiches like Angus sliders w/ smoked cheddar, bacon and chipotle mayo, and the “Victoria Station” w/ carpaccio, arugula, shaved Parm, and pesto sauce served on beer bread, a gateway bread that'll soon have you downing scotch loaves.

Harvey's By The Bay
Open Thurs thru Sun, 11am to midnight, 6445 NE 7th Ave, Miami; 954.394.2763
Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat the phrase "I drank beer in college when I was supposed to learn history". Or are they? Get steeped in history as you get steeped in beer, at Harvey's By The Bay.

Housed in a still-active American Legion post, in an elementary-school-ish building that was originally intended as a prison, Harvey's is named after Harvey W. Seeds, the first Miami soldier killed in WWI, and sits on a 45-acre waterfront property that has in turns hosted: a fruit farm, a famously hard-living fruit baron's estate, and a gambling house & brothel filled with people who by all rights should've enjoyed that prison. Booze prices're blue-collar, with $3.50 wells & wine, $4 calls, and $6.50 premiums, plus $2/$3 taps (Land Shark, Shock Top...), and $3/$4 bottles including Taíno Indian-repping Hatuey; meanwhile, the vibe's pure Keys, with a wide-open bar area, a free pool table, NFL- & MMA-screening flatscreens, a jukebox encompassing Hank Williams, Jr. and The Flaming Lips, and a bay-viewing "Florida Room" -- or, as Floridians call it, the "Here Room". As for bar-food, there're wings, jalapeño poppers, jerk chicken & burgers from an outdoor BBQ hut, and smoked kingfish dip whipped up by one of the owner's fishing buddies, who has no idea he's being kept around just for his dip. Future plans include boat-slip rebuilding (one owner's a marine contractor), soundproofing the post's 7,900 sq ft auditorium for parties and live music, and adding a sand volleyball court. Also: vets, cops, fire & rescue workers, and union members get anytime 2-for-1 drinks -- though taking advantage of such specials is the very mistake you keep repeating. Working boat ramp already available. Absorb more history at HarveySeedsPost29.org

If it's not a steakhouse opening, it's a pizza joint...

From Daily Candy:

Easy As Pie: Pizza Volante Opens

Design District, you already hold a big slice of Miami’s fashion, art, and food scene. Now you want more?Ambitious. But you do have Jonathan Eismann’s new venture, Pizza Volante, opening tomorrow.A “pizzeria and mozzarella parlor” (so called by Eismann’s 3-year-old daughter), Volante serves pies the Roman way: baked thin in a wood-burning oven. Fresh toppings include Vito’s mozzarella, guanciale from Niman Ranch, and cacciatorini (wild boar sausage).Purists will enjoy the mozzarella bar with trimmings like organic and unfiltered olive oils, local tomatoes, arugula, zucchini fritti, and caponata. The polished concrete floors, stainless steel kitchen fixtures, and orange Kartell chairs are so you, DD. But the eighteen wines under $18, glasses as low as $3.50, and cans of Bud for a buck (organic Florida brew costs a bit more) make the nabe more affordable. Not a pie in the sky.
Pizza Volante, 3918 North Miami Avenue, Design District (305-573-5325).

There's also the "Search for South Fla's Hottest MILF", a Q&A session on “Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About P**n” with a panel of industry pros, and seminars in swinging, building sites, and becoming a producer; as for the not-obvious, there's MMA bouts and a live performance Sat night by 2 Live Crew, who definitely won't perform "Me So Horny". Second Saturdays: Wynwood Artwalk & Miami Design District Artwalk

This weekend is Second Saturday Artwalk in Wynwood and the Design District.
Will continue to post the studio exhibitions that will be held this Saturday night :-)

Click here to see the list of galleries and their exhibitions (it's too long to post!)

Wynwood Art Walk
Saturday, May 9th

Bombay Sapphire cocktails, lots of artsy booze, no covers / 7pm-10pm

It's the second Saturday of the month, which means there's more reason to make your way out to Wynwood for a chance to take part in the opening receptions of this month's exhibitions. Interesting art along with artsy booze makes for a pretty good night. Check this link out for some possible helpfull details.

My suggestion is still to start out here with a few Bombay Sapphire concoctions and grab an art walk map. All of the galleries on the official map, as well as the others in Wynwood, will provide you with artsy booze to drink and plenty of good art to look at. Hit them up and then head back here for one last drink and some mingling before you're off to the after-party.

Galleries Include: David Castillo Gallery, Spinello Gallery, Gallery Diet, Federic Snitzer Gallery, Harold Golen Gallery, Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Damien B Contemporary Art Center, & O.H.W.O.W.

Bombay Sapphire Art Lounge
2234 NW 2nd Ave.
Behind David Castillo Gallery, Wynwood, Miami

My next suggestion would be to check out Wynwood Social Club, info posted below :)
