Here's the exhibition's story -

The atomic structure of metal is imperfect. The atoms group together in an interlocking hexagonal pattern, but there are inconsistencies in the pattern that are hard to predict. The raft of bubbles on the surface of a liquid, called a bubble raft, is a naturally occurring model of the interlocking hexagonal pattern at the molecular level of metals. The bubble raft also models the defects in the pattern.

The bubble raft evokes the generative stage of the exhibition. Bubbles, like objects, can exist on their own. This exhibition was formed from recent experiences seeing work and studio visits. Many of the works that resonated were sculptural - specifically objects and not installation. Independent bubbles rise to the surface and join with others. The objects' physical form, combination of materials, absurdity and subtle humor begged comparison to one another, especially when shown together in an exhibition.

A bubble raft has its own inherent dynamics, like metal, or a practice, or an exhibition.

Fashion and Philanthropy Combine

On Friday, September 10th, Bal Harbour Shops will join in VOGUE magazine’s FASHION’S NIGHT OUT (FNO), created by Vogue, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, NYC & Company and the City of New York.

The evening’s festivities will begin at 7 p.m. when the shops transform in grande Miami style into a progressive block party with food, music, special-edition merchandise, personal appearances and a few surprises. And to make sure everyone has a good time, all of the stores will be open late until 10 p.m.

Because Bal Harbour Shops likes to celebrate the substance of style, they are reaching out to the community and supporting a variety of local charities and cultural organizations through FNO. Each of the more than 40 participating stores has partnered with a non-profit of its choosing and will donate a percentage of the evening’s proceeds.

Vogue LatinoamĂ©rica will be present at the night’s festivities distributing September magazines. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a simulated live photo shoot. Vogue’s photographer will be on the lookout for the best-dressed of the night.

So join us for the second annual FASHION’S NIGHT OUT and enjoy the single biggest shopping event of the year!

back to life..back to reality!

welcome back! back to school...back to work..back to reality..back to miami traffic..
actually..traffic wasn't so bad this morning. i was expecting it to be a lot worse..but perhaps people took off today to bring their little ones to school.. i'll revise my thoughts on this by thursday..

i've been a little MIA from the blog world. just like we need vacation from work..i needed a vacation from the internet! (i'm sure some of the other miami blogs and google helped you out in the meantime) i must say that i've been playing with twitter alot though, and it surely is an interesting form of social networking/media! i'm still trying to get the hang of @'s and #'s and #FF's (still don't know what this stands for, but it happens on fridays! fantastic friday? finally friday? friday forever? i dont know..) and ok..some things i really don't get..so if you follow me on twitter and @ or # me..and i don't respond..please don't take offense to it..i have no idea what the hell they mean..and i kinda just figured out the whole RT and reply feature! (follow us at your own risk @iheartmiami305)

so i hope to get back in the hang of weekly posts and updates, and forgive me if it takes me some time to get back into it ;-) it's been a long nap, and im still rolling around in bed.

more importantly..I Heart Miami was invited to participate in the Chevy Cupcake Crawl. i'd like to thank Midtown Chica for posting a blog about this..cause really, the minute i saw your post, i signed up. ummm. CUPCAKES. hell yeah. i'm truly excited to be able to participate in this :-) i really enjoy meeting new people in Miami, and experiencing new things...and new cars...and most importantly..cupcakes!!! ahhh so excited :-)
