Friday 5/20: Big Night in Little Haiti

Beethova Obas at Big Night in Little Haiti - free night of music and art
A very Big Night in Little Haiti this Friday, May 20th, 6PM - 10PM: FREE concert in the plaza by revered Haitian singer-songwriter Beethova Obas
Opening set Rosamora
Little Haiti Cultural Center  212 NE 59th Terrace, Miami 33137
(305) 960-2969
BigNightLittleHaiti.com

Also at the Center:

  • Arts and crafts vendors
  • Food & Drinks from Chef Creole and Spuntino
Beethova Obas builds upon Haiti's rich diverse traditions - the elegant contribution of French chanson, African roots music, lyrical Caribbean dance rhythms.  Here is world music at its best - a true fusion that speaks strongly of Haiti even as it incorporates Brazilian, Cuban, and jazz stylings.  Beethova received his name, foretelling a musical future, from his father the renowned painter Charles Obas.  His father was murdered under the Duvalier regime, while Beethova was still a teen.  He determined to carry out his father's wish, that he become a great musical artist.  Over the past 30 years, his music has become a symbol of both courage and of serenity.  In between ballad-like melodies and rhythmic African beats, he shares his life's story with powerful lyrics and colorful tones.  He is now working with his brother Emanuel, also a singer and visual artist, and has been active in humanitarian work since last year's earthquake.

American Craft Beer Week

Not that we need a designated beer week to celebrate drinking beer...but this week is American Craft Beer Week. Here are some nearby Miami-Dade favorites that are celebrating this joyous week! Thanks to South Florida Beer Blog for the info!
Monday May 16th
Cervezas
(5835 Sunset Drive Miami, FL 33143)-  To kick off a week of American Craft beer Cerzvezas will host the Night of 1000 IBUs. Starting at 7pm come in for 6 different beers on draft brewed to let the Hops be the star of the show. PLUS we'll have 2 RANDALLS serving up Avery IPA poured through two different types of hops (Centenniel and Warrior), a great experiment to show you what the variety of hops really brings to a beer. They'll have these two Avery IPAs, Dogfish Head Hellhound, Avery Maharaja, Stone IPA, and Southern Tier 2XIPA all on draft. You'll be able to get both pints of Avery as a packaged deal for $10 or a flight of both Avery IPAs, Stone IPA and Maharaja for $12. Hellhound only available by the glass and they'll have a deal of $1 off any bottle IPAs and $2 off large bottle IPAs... get your enamel ready for all of those Alpha Acids!

The DRB (255 N.E. 14th Street Miami, FL 33132)- California and Colorado Tap Takeover. To pay homage to some of the most innovative craft beer states, The DRB is filling their taps up with brews from both states including Left Hand Milk Stout, Oskar Blues G'knight, Boulder Hazed and Infused, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Stone Ruination IPA and the cherry on top is a keg of Collaboration Not Litigation brewed by Avery and Russian River TOGETHER. $25 all you can drink of these draft beers (plus an order of chicken wings) from 6pm-10pm (Yea you read that right). They are starting the week off with a bang!

Lou's Beer Garden (7337 Harding Avenue Miami Beach, FL 33141)- The 5-Part Summer Beer Pairing series kicks off with the first beer pairing of the season in celebration of American Craft Beer Week.
