The Second Annual, Virginia Key Grassroots Festival of Music & Dance will return to
Miami, Florida February 21 thru 24, 2013 at the Historic Virginia Key Beach Park.  The
four day GrassRoots Festival event will feature: music on four stages, on-site camping,
Sustainability Fair & Expo, Kids' Area, Dance Tent, World Foods Cafe, and Zen
Village Area with Healing Arts, Yoga, movement workshops, massage, meditation
and crafts.

Musical highlights include: Inner Circle, Rusted Root, MC Yogi, Suenalo,
Donna the Buffalo, Keith Frank & His Soileau Zydeco Band, Spam Allstars,
Locos Por Juana, Elastic Bond, ArtOfficial, Driftwood, Johnny Dread, Revelation
Mizik, Jose Conde, Keith Secola, Equanimous Minds, Osceola Brothers.

to add Brazilian Spice to the 2013 Food & Wine Burger Bash

Havaianas, the world’s most stylish flip flop, has partnered with James Beard Award winning chef and Miami native, Michelle Bernstein to bring “Instant Brazilian Joy” to the 2013 Food & Wine Burger Bash in Miami.

To celebrate this partnership, Havaianas has created a limited edition collection of Food & Wine pins that will be available on-site at Burger Bash and on the Havaianas website from February 21st - February 24th.  These whimsical pins feature snacks and cooking items such as pasta, cracked eggs, burgers, fries, ice-cream, pickles, ketchup and more.

    

Bernstein infused her famous Latin culinary style with the deeply rooted Brazilian heritage of Havaianas to create an eclectic menu of recipes inspired by this exclusive collection of flip flop styles and pins. The authentic delicacies such as Bolo de Maracujá (Passion Fruit Cake) with purple sandals and the ice cream pin, The Brazilian Burger with red sandals and the burger pin, or Moqueca with gold flip flops with the fish pin, and more will be available for each guest to order complimentary a la carte at the event.   • Weird Miami Bus tours 
  • Mentorship for African-American playwrights 
  • Living coral as an art form 
  • And so many more!
 
We have launched our 6th open competition for South Florida-based artists to submit their best idea to the KF for a chance to win a Knight Arts Challenge.
  
Together we can encourage everyone in our community- 
be it an individual artist, a non-profit organization- 
to take advantage of this amazing opportunity to secure a grant for their idea to see the light of day, and to make Miami an even better place to live.
 
All it takes is a good idea to be submitted to KnightArts.org between Feb. 4 and March 4.

20th annual Kite Day at Haulover Park
Sunday February 17, 2013
12 to 5pm


The sky over Miami Beach will display a marvelous array of colors and figures from hundreds of kites in the air during the 20th annual Kite Day Kite Festival at Haulover Park, 10800 Collins Avenue in Miami Beach.  Expect to see the 100 foot flying squid, 30 foot flying scuba man, 300 sq foot parafoils. 30 foot flying Nemo Fish 150 foot flying rainbow and more.
 This year we are highlighting the “Kites of the Caribbean”. It’s a chance to see up close a museum of hand made kites made by our local kite makers in the styles and traditions of the Caribbean Kite Flyers.

Hosted by Miami-Dade Parks and Skyward Kites, these free events feature paper kite building classes  & demonstrations from longtime kite enthusiasts. In addition, there will be kite-flying competitions for both children and adults.People of all ages are encouraged to come out to fly their kites, make their own kites for free or purchase an already-made kite.  There is no limitation to the size and type of kite.  Those who just want to watch can bring a blanket and enjoy the sight of hundreds of kites in the air and some great live music.  Food and refreshments & kites will be available for purchase.

Movies on the Plaza: The Notebook, Friday February 15th, 8pm


Brickell World Plaza presents Movies on the Plaza featuring The Notebook, a 2004 romantic drama directed by Nick Cassavetes, from a screenplay written by Jeremy Leven and Jan Sardi, which is in turn based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks.

The film stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as a young couple who fall in love during the early 1940s. 

Movies on the Plaza is a free, family-friendly event sponsored by Brickell World Plaza each month.

Parking is free in the surface lot. Chair rentals are available.

Bring dinner. Bring snacks. Coolers are allowed, but please, no glass or bottles. Movies nights are subject to favorable weather conditions.
