5/17: Welcome Back Weekend!

Almost Memorial Day Weekend....Almost Memorial Day Weekend.......
Even though it is pretty much summer in Miami year round, Memorial Day Weekend starts off the real summer season in Miami. Long sunny days, random hellish rain storms, beach days, bike rides, boating, BBQ's, iced coffee...you get my drift. Almost time..Our last weekend in Miami before the true summer season (and probably the last weekend in town for most locals this month.....you know everyone runs away next weekend...right?)

Cheers to the weekend!! What will you do?
(Pic below is from the amazing Official Miami Book)

FRIDAY
If you have never been to this event in Little Haiti...(or to Little Haiti period), check out this monthly event hosted by Rhythm Foundation. It's a great night of Haitian Kompas, art, food, dancing and culture. All we hear/see are negative images of Haiti...when the reality is Haiti is a beautiful, beautiful country with amazing food, beautiful beaches, incredible art, and music that just gets you in an undescribable mood.
side note: white haitians exist. biased opinion :-)

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
A free movie in the heart of the city.
Bring chairs/blankets/snacks (and your drinks in a flask)
Great date/friends/family night!

SATURDAY
Have you been to Fairchild recently? Seen the new butterfly gardens?
If not, this may be the perfect intro into Fairchild's butterfly world.
Fairchild is hosting Miami's first-ever Butterfly Migration Parade, a day full of butterfly-themed family fun. Participate in the whimsical parade down Old Cutler Road from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m., then spend the day at Fairchild from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. to join in fun activities like the butterfly costume contest, live music and butterfly viewings. Tasty treats are provided by the Glasshouse Café and food trucks. Make sure to visit the Wings of the Tropics exhibit to marvel at the thousands of vibrantly colored butterflies swooping overhead.

An original artist warehouse community off of Bird Road/SR 826.
Great art walk in another unexplored part of town
(unless you grew up here! we've all been to Tropical Park, and Tropical Chinese Restaurant
 which are near by)

Saturday 5/18 is also International Museum Day
The Miami participants of International Museum Day:
Special events include a Fantasy Theatre Factory performance at 3 p.m. of ”Gordon Gumshoe – Fantasy Detective.”
Docent-led tours of New Work Miami 2013 and Frames of Reference are at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

SUNDAY
Nothing really exciting to share going on this Sunday...relax & enjoy the sunshine!
Our usual favorite is the Pinecrest Gardens Farmers Market and if you feel orchid-y, check out the Redland International Orchid Show (If you're heading this far southwest, grab some juice at Robert is Here and check out the amazingly unknown and beautiful Wat Buddharangsi Thai Temple!)
(so I lied..there may be really cool things to do this Sunday!)

As always, make your own adventures in Miami, and check out our Miami Musts for ideas!
Happy Weekend!
