This spin-off of our Wednesday yoga classes incorporates themes of ecology and the natural world into the poses and breath work of a hatha-based yoga class in a beautiful outdoor setting. Get a workout and a botany lesson at the same time. Did you know that Buddha became enlightened sitting under a ficus tree? Meditate under our Ficus benjamina and discover your own purpose for being. This class is accessible to all skill levels, and is taught by Terra-Nova (RYT). All donations given at this class support the Garden. Suggested donation $5 for Garden members, $10 non-members.

Nationwide celebration, with events planned in Miami, New York and Los Angeles


YoungArts Awareness Day is a nationwide, one-day initiative to “keep arts alive,” by celebrating the hundreds of thousands of young artists across the country and encouraging them to pursue a career in the arts. This day also highlights our efforts to contribute to the cultural vitality of the nation by identifying and supporting the next generation of talented young artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts.

YoungArts Awareness Day coincides with National Arts in Education Week, which takes place September 7-13, when the National Education Association celebrates, promotes and showcases the immense role arts education has in producing engaged, successful, college and career ready students.

Help #KeepArtsAlive on social media
Join us in spreading the word to “keep arts alive” on September 8. We are encouraging everyone who has a creative instinct to take part in this very important initiative by creating and sharing their own work, or artistic experiences at museums and concerts, via social media with the tags #keepartsalive, #youngarts and#youngartsawarenessday. For inspiration, a playlist highlighting the work of select YoungArts alumni will launch that day on Spotify.

From 12-3 PM EST, YoungArts Alumnus David Leon (2012, Jazz Saxophone) will be driven around Miami and South Beach in a mini "Art” cooper designed by YoungArts Alumnus Hernan Bas (1996, Photography) and do “Pop-Up” performances along with two hip hop dancers.

7:00 PM: the premiere screening of the HBO documentary special Joshua Bell: A YoungArts MasterClass, followed by a YoungArts Salon and performance with Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell and his MasterClass co-stars, YoungArts alumni Brannon Cho (2013, Music), Leah Ferguson (2011, Music),Mariella Haubs (2014, Music), Kevin Hu (2011, Music), Sirena Huang (2012, Music), Anna Litvinenko(2012, Music), Zachary Ostroff (2011, Jazz), Bradley Parrimore (2013, Music) and Kelly Talim (2013, Music. The Kitchen Hop returns with the launch of its Coral Gables edition to please foodies with another crawl through Miracle Mile. 

The Kitchen Hop will take over Miracle Mile and the Coral Gables area with a restaurant crawl of epic dining proportions. The delectable event will feature more than 10 of the area’s best kitchens! Attendees will bounce from one kitchen to another, sampling chef-selected appetizers or entrees at each stop. Crawlers will also enjoy drink specials throughout the afternoon to wash everything down ($3 Corona Light and various cocktail specials at each restaurant). Come evening, participants head to the after party at Cibo Wine Bar for a complimentary welcome cocktail. The Kitchen Hop is set to be this summer’s best bite affair. Participating restaurants include: Seasons 52, Cibo Wine Bar, Flemmings Steakhouse, Mortons Steakhouse, Bulla Gastrobar, Bricktops, Red Koi Sushi and more . For those who need a boost in between kitchens, Vicky Bakery will be providing a “Cafecito Corner” at the event.

Shleu Shleu Miami All Stars, carrying on the music of the legendary Shleu Shleu of Haitian music, headline a double bill at Big Night.

Since 1965, Shleu Shleu has defined “Kompa Direk,” the beloved classic dance music of Haiti. They are among the longest running groups in the history of kompa, remaining popular for 50 years. Smith Jean Baptiste and Jacques Vabre launched the band, with frequent shows at the lovely Hotel Villa Creole in Petion-ville, popular dance parties throughout the original golden age of konpa of the 1960s. The big band was in demand at all of Haiti’s prestigious hotels and private parties, and brought together many of the top musicians of the era. In the years between, the band toured and recorded, even as the band line up evolved. By 2011, many of the key players had moved to South Florida, and under the leadership of percussionist Baptiste and long-time saxophonist Evens “Gogo” Laturtue, renamed themselves the Shleu Shleu Miami All Stars. The band is still rocking crowds on the dance floor!

The double bill also features Ayabonmbe, an 8-member rasin (roots) Haitian music and dance group. More than 20 traditional Afro-Caribbean rhythms form the beat for this vibrant ensemble, led by composer and founder Marc Joseph, and percussionist Patou Lindor. Ayabonmbe is the war cry of the Arawak Indians, defending their sacred Caribbean homelands, and it remains today a leitmotif in the struggle for education and peace. The call is vital to the work of the group, which includes fiery live performances as well as workshops for young people to become immersed in traditional Haitian roots culture.

During the monthly event, participating Downtown Hollywood galleries and shops stay open late, offering complimentary drinks and appetizers for visitors while hosting artwork from an array of artists who display their work on-site for the night’s special event. Don’t be surprised to hear the sounds of a harp, a harmonica or a trio of ukuleles as live music on street corners complement the event, adding magical sounds to the eclectic scene.

This month’s upcoming Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk features many exciting artists including Victor- Hugo Vaca II, showing at the Cinema Paradiso Theater on Hollywood Boulevard. Victor- Hugo Vaca II will be present and will be available to answer any questions about his art. Internationally acclaimed artist Jose Rementeria will be featured at the ArtsPark Gallery in Young Circle. Rementeria is best known for his work “Human Beans,” traveling around the globe as part of the Coexistence Collection by the Museum on the Seam, Jerusalem. The artist will be present to discuss and show his new work.

Celebration: 12pm-10pm


The Wynwood Brewing Company is celebrating one year since opening its doors as the City of Miami’s first production microbrewery and the Brignonis want to celebrate with the whole South Florida craft beer community. The festivities will be on Saturday, August 16th starting at 12 p.m. at 565 NW 24th Street with the street closed between NW 5th and 6th Avenue. 

Wynwood Brewing will have its first bottle release at 2pm - El Infante - to commemorate its anniversary and more than twenty seven brews produced in the past year by the brewery, as well as guest taps from Funky Buddha Brewery, Due South Brewing, Proof Brewing Company, Cigar City Brewing, and MIABrewing. The Tap Room will be opened noon to midnight. Tickets will be available for sale at $5 per hour. 

Art Tent with works by Ivan Roque, Jorge Rodriguez, Danny Ferrer and Jay Bellicchi as well as an all day DJ schedule produced by Jolt Radio. Food trucks will be parked all day on NW 24th street to serve up their delicious eats: Jersey Dawg, Poblano's Mexican Fusion and 2 Jive Turkeys to satisfy everyone’s appetite, as well as, Liquid Ice Cream who will be creating their specialty desserts infused with Wynwood beer. 

No growlers fills, flights or brewery tours will be offered during the Saturday celebration. Beer tickets will be sold on the premises for consumption. 

About Wynwood Brewing Company
Wynwood Brewing Company, which opened in August 2013, is the City of Miami’s first production micro brewery. It is located in the heart of the Wynwood Art District, featuring the brewery and an art-filled Tap Room. The craft brewery is family owned by the Brignoni family and operates with the simple objective of “bringing fresh, delicious and creative beers to South Florida’s beer lovers.” The brewery had an expansion in April 2014 which enabled them to triple its production. The WBCo beers are distributed throughout Florida by Brown Distributing.

Guerrier and exhibition curator Diana Nawi will discuss a breadth of topics reflected in the exhibition, including the artist’s interest in Miami’s history, the legacy of the 1960s, and the influence of cinema and literature on his practice. more
