Eco Canoe Tour



The Deering Estate at Cutler offers guided canoe tours of Biscayne Bay that depart from Charles Deering’s boat turning basin. You will canoe to Chicken Key, a seven-acre mangrove island and restored bird rookery, which lies one mile off shore. The island contains sand dunes and mangrove forests and is surrounded by sand bars, tidal flats, seagrass beds, and rocky debris. While canoeing, you can observe marine wildlife such as manatees and sea turtles, as well as numerous species of birds.

The program is designed for beginners and experts alike. Please bring closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes, water, a hat, and sunscreen.

We will be riding through Riverside, Little Havana, West Flagler, Coral Gables (Miracle Mile), Shenandoah, Grapeland Heights, Allapattah, Overtown, and Downtown. The route is available here, total distance is approximately 13.3 miles. It's strongly suggested that you print a copy of the map for yourself in case you are tardy or get lost. The ride will end at Grand Central Park for the "Magic City Bike Party, the park is located just five blocks north of Government Center. 

Don't forget to bring bicycle lights. It's the law! We will be leaving at 7:15pm sharp. If you arrive late you will be left behind, the ride starts & ends in Downtown Miami. Rain or shine! DO NOT PASS RIDERS WITH FLAGS - THIS IS NOT A RACE


The Miami Bike Scene and Omni Parkwest Redevelopment Association present.. "Magic City Bike Party"at Grand Central Park in Downtown Miami on November 29th from 8-11pm.

Join hundreds of local cyclists for a special Miami Critical Mass after party at the park. We'll have food trucks, beer, music, and of course bicycles. Admission is free.

Skate ParkThe bike party coincides with the monthly Miami Critical Mass ride which will be starting as regularly scheduled at Government Center, the only difference to previous rides is that it'll be ending at Grand Central Park for the celebration, the group of cyclists should be expected to arrive at the park around 8:20pm.

The Magic City Bicycle Collective will have two tents set up with a repair stand, music, and t-shirts. They will demonstrate simple bike care and do minor bike repairs and maintenance. Buy them a beer, purchase a t-shirt or make a donation!

Bring your bike lock! The park is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Don't lose your bike by being careless. Do not leave your bike unattended if you do not have a good lock.

Grand Central Park is located on N. Miami Ave & NW 7th St, get directions.


Once again.. Miami Critical Mass will meet up at Government Center at 6:30pm as usual, and depart at 7:15pm! The group will ride approximately 13.3 miles and finish at Grand Central Park around 8:30pm for the bicycle party!

The Inaugural Brew Bus Miami: HIGHWAY TO HOPS TOUR

We will first meet you at Lokal in Coconut Grove, Miami’s oldest and dare we say coolest neighborhood. Join us at 11:30am for a complementary beer to start off the day and then the bus leaves at 12pm sharp! From there we will go to Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park, Broward County’s first production brewery and a huge one at that! We will tour the 20,000 sq.ft facility while sipping on their funk… No pun intended!

Next stop is M.I.A. Brewing. Visiting M.I.A. is a real treat because we will be witnessing a brewery in the making! Yes, there will be beer and yes, hardhats are required!

For the last stop we will hop on the bus and head over to Wynwood Brewing, home to one of the largest street art exhibits in the world! We will tour their brand new brewery and sample their flagship beers.

PUPM's beneficiary this year, Guitars Over Guns Organization, will also be on-site to honor the artists with a special musical performance by their students. 9th Annual Mad Hatter Arts Festival in Coconut Grove


The Mad Hatter Arts Festival celebrates its 9th year with a return to The Barnacle and along the sidewalks of Main Highway. This juried event features artists of all types of media. Chalk It Up! the street painting will be nearly on Commodore Plaza. Street painting dates to the 16th century Italy when artists traveled from town to town transforming streets in to temporary art galleries. This truly ephermeral art form is experiencing a 21st century renaissance. The theme is Through The Looking Glass. 

As always, music is a highlight of the Mad Hatter, plus there is a participatory drum circle, various hat contests to enter, and activities for kids of all ages. Food will be available for purchase from The Barnacle Society's concession stand or venture into the Village for drinks and treats at participating restaurants and eateries. 

 Return with a picnic to The Barnacle on Saturday evening when the gates reopen at 6pm for a special screening of the classic, Alice In Wonderland. Movie begins at 7pm with no entry after 7:15.
 Movie tickets are $5 per person for ages 6 and over; $3 for ages 2-5 and free for ages under 2.

Do you live on the high-water line? You know, those blocks in your neighborhood that’ll soon be underwater.

That’s right, don’t be shy. . . . You know its happening. . . . You’ve known its happening. We’ve all known its happening — forget your politics and denial (and forget your politics of denial).

If it hasn’t already, sea-level rise is coming to a South Florida neighborhood near you, and faster than most of us realize.

Our community is the most at-risk city for sea-level rise in the entire United States, and we’re going to have to start making some serious decisions about the fate of our beloved Miami. We’ll have to embark on some collective South Florida soul-searching as we all face down and come to terms with our comingWater World.

The first three questions that probably come to mind are:
How much water is rising?
Where is the water rising?
When is the water rising?

While the answers to some of these questions are less unclear than for others, uncertainty, confusion, and denial persist.

But just because the bulk of those among our citizenry elected to represent us in office remain for the most part muted on the subject, we, the people on the ground, need not follow their non-existent lead.

Rather, we can embrace head-on the fourth and most important question we’ve got to ask:
What are we going to do about it?

A good place to start is by coming out to make history at the unprecedented High Water Line (HWL) | Miami’s Bicycle Ride for Resiliency!

Big Night in Little Haiti, featuring RAM
6-10pm, Little Haiti Cultural Center

RAM is the band started by Richard Morse, who runs the historic Hotel Oloffson in Port-Au-Prince.
RAM plays most Thursday nights in PAP, and gets you dancing and sweating to their style of mizik rasin.
Truly, one of my favorite nights in Haiti, and happy that they will be coming to share their music with Miami.


RAM is a legendary 13-member rasin band based Haiti, founded in 1990. Their music is “voudou rock ‘n’ roots”, a style pioneered by bandleader Richard Morse to meld his love of both Haitian roots culture and rock. They are famed for their regular Thursday night performances at Morse’s historic Hotel Oloffson in downtown Port au Price, attended by a wide spectrum of the country’s political and cultural leaders. Through their music, the group pushes forward a message of freedom for Haitian people, with a base of traditional voudou-inspired lyrics and instruments in a modern rock and roll context.

In RAM, one hears the beautiful complexity of the past, present and future of the Caribbean. Morse was born in Puerto Rico – his father an American sociologist and his mother famed Haitian singer Emirante de Pradine. Morse graduated from Princeton in 1979, an anthropology student who also played in a punk rock band. A change of life in 1987 brought him to Haiti, where he took over the operation of the historic but near-ruined Oloffson Hotel. The folkloric dance troupe Morse hired for the hotel became the base of his new band. RAM formed the nucleus of the rising rasin (roots) music movement – combining elements of ceremonial voudou traditions, folk styles and American rock and roll.

Cranksgiving Bike Food Drive Race

It's back! Cranksgiving Miami returns for its fifth installment come Saturday, November 16th 2013.

For the past four years the Cranksgiving Miami food drive alleycat race & ride has helped collect non-perishable goods for those in need during the holiday season. To those unfamiliar with Cranksgiving, it's basically a food scavenger hunt on bicycles with all the goods collected being donated to Camillus House at the end of the race.

Details:
Participants will be asked to register at a table and will then receive a map/manifest before the start of the race. The map and/or manifest will have designated grocery store locations marked and a shopping list. Riders are to go to the grocery store checkpoints and buy the non-perishable food items from the checklist. There is no registration fee, the $10 you need to bring go towards the purchase food items. The first participant to get to the finish after visiting all the checkpoints & purchasing all the items from the list wins! Cranksgiving is lots of fun and for a great cause, it also helps shine a positive light on the local cycling community. Expect to spend about $2 at each grocery store ($10 total), it is required to keep all your receipts.

The race is approximately 10 - 17 miles depending on whether you do the long or short route, speed will be an obvious factor. However, knowing your way around the city & the aisles of a supermarket can be advantageous.

*Racing is not required, you can simply participate by riding with a group and visiting the checkpoints at your own pace. We want to make sure everyone is included, all bikes are welcomed. Please keep in mind that the cause is what's most important.

It's okay for those who wish to ride but not necessarily race. We will also have prizes for the most charitable participants. If speed is not your thing you can ride the event as a scavenger hunt instead of a race. Last year over 170 local cyclists participated making it the largest alleycat in South Florida, everyone had a great time and the Camillus House was very appreciative about Cranksgiving. This year we're hoping to appeal to more riders, thus collecting more items for those in need!
