Irijalba, (Spain, 1979) presents us with an exhibition about the way in which Western culture perceives reality through the use of artificial light. The placement of a light fixture, like those used in football stadiums with expectant audiences, within a natural, untouched forest creates a surreal atmosphere. The focus shifts away from the habitually illuminated scene, to the artifact that emanates light. The artist generates an amalgam of contrasts: western culture, which reconstructs reality with lighting effects with the eastern concept, which focuses more on shadows. We are faced with a critique of the society of the spectacle, the insignificance, the noise and the general conformity that dominates contemporary culture. Dina Mitrani Gallery opened in November 2008 and specializes in international contemporary photography. He has also worked associated to prestigious institutions and organizations such as the Prince Klaus Foundation, Holland and the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York. As an art critic he has written seminal texts, published in important books and catalogues. As curator he has organized and presented many influential exhibitions in diverse institutions. In Denarrations Gerardo Mosquera brought together these seven contemporary artists whose works are aiming at similar concerns. According to Mosquera: “This exhibition presents works that use a narrative structure and simultaneously discuss, deconstruct or even subvert narrative conventions. While the artists included have very different poetics, and their works range from installations to video-performances to paintings, all of them share a will to narrate and to denarrate. Soto was a Venezuelan artist (1923 – 2005). He was a sculptor and painter and is most famous for his op art and kinetic art works. Barralet, and James Fittler) and modern cultural references (through the use of turn-of-the-century photography and silkscreens) converge in a rich, complex layering of color and graphic embellishment. Above all, however, emerging artist Mbiango’s more pressing concern is the unity of both artistic and human ingredients: the integration of Eastern and Western influences seeks to peacefully reconcile the inherent cultural differences so ubiquitous in postmodern society. While we listen to the hype and propaganda on how everything is getting better, the work struggles to get made and each artist finds there own creative way to survive. Money certainly does facilitate making art, but at the same time, the lack of an abundance of money in the wrong hands, may just possibly make better art. And in the middle of it all lies the thrilling marquee-like lights of Klaus Guingang’s “MAFIART.” Monitoring Art This is a collaboration of video installations with O Cinema, it is a video art gallery showcasing the work of video and new media artist –with particular emphasis on local artists. Relatively nascent to the art scene, video art emerged during the 1960s and 1970s and has engendered artist with opportunities to express themselves through motion and technology. Adam and Eve. One of today’s leading fashion photographers, Arnaldo Anaya-Lucca, will be presenting his first fine art solo exhibition, “Adam and Eve,” at Luis Perez Galeria in Wynwood, Miami during this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, hosted by Manuel Norena. Anaya-Lucca is a renowned fashion photographer known for capturing the world of Ralph Lauren rethinks classic imagery as his own personal expression of events in history. For his first exhibition of its type, Anaya-Lucca rethinks classic imagery in a more personal way, animating events in history with a curiosity that is both critical and sensual. Adam and Eve is a nude study inspired by 17th and 18th Century renaissance paintings. The images reflect the struggle of sensuality, temptation and shame that underlies the human condition as well as the joy of sexual innocence. The artist also wanted to address situations where the line between internal and external sense of self was/is in conflict throughout human history. Based on the traditional five senses- touch, hear, see, smell, and taste, BAC artists cross and blend these senses together to create an experience of a sequence of synesthetic encounters, attacking one sense and at the same time evoking another. 5X7 The BAC presents a small works exhibition 5X7 in its Swenson Gallery. All of the work measures 5" X 7" or 7" X 5". The show will consist of a variety of media, from painting, drawing, sculpture, fiber art and on. There is sure to be something to please every aesthetic. Patrons are encouraged to purchase these small, unique works of art at $100.00 each. When a guest purchases a piece from this exhibition, a photo will be taken of them and their new purchase. Andres’ work depicts an evident influence from constructivist and architectural trends. The appeal lies in the fact that there is no abstraction in the creative process of his pieces. Born in Spain and a resident of Miami since 2002, Ferrandis’ concept of footprints left behind is portrayed in his work through his tactical minimal brushstroke and linear panels; just as time has passed by in our dimension, his brush has passed leaving reminiscent color behind.
