Beethova Obas builds upon Haiti's rich diverse traditions - the elegant contribution of French chanson, African roots music, lyrical Caribbean dance rhythms. Here is world music at its best - a true fusion that speaks strongly of Haiti even as it incorporates Brazilian, Cuban, and jazz stylings. Beethova received his name, foretelling a musical future, from his father the renowned painter Charles Obas. His father was murdered under the Duvalier regime, while Beethova was still a teen. He determined to carry out his father's wish, that he become a great musical artist. Over the past 30 years, his music has become a symbol of both courage and of serenity. In between ballad-like melodies and rhythmic African beats, he shares his life's story with powerful lyrics and colorful tones. He is now working with his brother Emanuel, also a singer and visual artist, and has been active in humanitarian work since last year's earthquake.
