About The Fête de la Musique In Miami

Fête de la Musique began in Paris in 1982 as a new holiday celebrating the summer solstice on June 21st. It has evolved into a global music festival, featuring free music in the streets, fields and concert halls across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas. Previous year’s local Fêtes - headlined by Barcelona’s Ojos de Brujo in 2005 and the Refugee All Stars of Sierra Leone in 2006 - drew over 3,000 to Miami’s downtown. The festival showcases all styles of music, from traditional and classical to world music, choral and jazz, electronic and new trends. The concerts themselves – always free – range in scale from individual street musicians and club shows to massive carnivals and all-day extravaganzas in open fields and stadiums. The Cultural Services of the French Consulate in Miami has organized Fête de la Musique in Miami since 1997 with many partners such as Alliance Française and Rhythm Foundation.
