Experience, engage and explore the integrated relationship between people and the environment through site specific eco and environmental works in the visual, literary and performing arts during the Deering Estate Festival of the Arts, April 11-13,2014, at the Deering Estate at Cutler. 

The In Deep theme for this year's Festival is designed to immerse the senses with challenging performances and works that run the gamut from upcycled materials to activist statements; from sound installations to earth works. Events on Friday evening & Saturday after 3:30 pm are FREE and open to the public. On Saturday, April 12th, food and beverages will be available at the Culinary Café by the courtyard.

Visitor Center Theatre
The reading of Messenger #4 depicts how a character's actions inadvertently change the world. 

SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 2014 
10:00 am - 11:30 am 
Back by popular demand, master violinist and pedagogue, Charles Castleman returns to present a master class featuring South Florida’s finest young string players.

A simultaneous peformance and movement choir brings attention to the fragility of our waters.

Curator's Tour - In Deep
Lucinda Linderman, curator, guides guests through the indoor and outdoor exhibit that challenges local, national and international artists to create works that showcase the many facets of eco and environmental art. 

4:30 pm - 9:15 pm
Mangrove Boardwalk - Nighttime Adventure Tour
Ongoing Guided Tour
With flashlights in hand, explore a unique South Florida coastal mangrove forest. 

7:30 pm - 10:00 pm 
Fire Circle Poetry
Spontaneous nature-based readings throughout the evening culminating at the fire circle with particpatory poems. 

8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Artists' Exhibit Tour - In Deep
Guided tour of indoor and outdoor artworks with presenting artists of this year's Festival. 

SUNDAY, APRIL 13, 2014
6:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$25 Adult; $12 Youth (K-12)
Guest violinist, Charles Castleman and founding members of the Deering Estate Chamber Ensemble present musical imageries of nature in early chamber music works by Felix Mendelssohn and Erich Korngold.

Self Guided Tour
Follow a Festival map to find eco and environmental art installations. Receive a Deering Explorer Certificate and a chance to win binoculars or a Deering Estate Foundation Membership. 

Culinary Cafe by the Courtyard
A select group of food trucks will be onsite for a healthy, fresh picnic experience. 

Onsite Shower Head Exchange
Save our Waters: Bring your old shower head and exchange it for a "free" water efficient shower head.
