The fragile mandala paintings are, in the eye of their creators, not works of art in-themselves but tools meant to create a space for meditation, tools for experience. Through the contemplation of these images, the viewers might connect with their inner truths. In a similar way, the works presented at the Americas Collection are tools meant to create a space for experience. Each piece presents a set of images and texts, all of them signs that might originate from residuals left of a past experience or events that might not be immediately identifiable. These symbols offer the viewer a chance to engage in a process of remembrance, a game of artificial reconstruction or re-invention of a personal memory. Like the Mandalas, the light- boxes are not self-contained aesthetic events, but constructions made to provoke an intimate interaction with the observer. The artwork ultimately fulfills its purpose the moment he or she starts making up stories while looking at them. Art Talk: at 8 pm on Friday October 2nd. art critic Carlos Luis will give a talk on his personal interpretation on Viñoly’s work.

Recent Works Renato Meziat was born in Rio de Janairo in 1952. In 1978 and 1979, his work was chosen for display at the prestigious I Sala National de Artes Plasticas. Then in 1980, his solo exhibition graced the halls of the Galleria Ipanema in his native city. Meziat ranks among the top notch realist contemporary painters, influenced by the works of Chileans masterClaudio Bravo. Well cultured, attentive observer of the different "realities" that surrounded him, skilled in the handling of shades and colors, self-taught, who was born to paint, he searches in art the means to becoming a man of the 21st century. Meziat shows us his work with remarkable simplicity and elegance. Never academic, his compositions are always well balanced and sophisticated. His paintings are in private collections throughout North and South America and Europe. His works have also been sold very successfully at several auctions at Sotheby's and Christie's, Latin American Art in New York City. .

Gallery Night Reception Friday October 2, 7 - 10 Florian Depenthal, Shattered Splendor, 1993, Oil on Canvas, 54 x 42 in	Opening Reception, Friday October 2, 7 - 10 Five Abstract Visions: Michelle Concepcion, Aaron Karp, Florian Depenthal, Andy Moses and Linda Touby Five Abstract Visions, a fascinating view of how accomplished mid-career artists approach abstraction in very different ways. “Each of these artists have been exhibited in museums and are included in some of the nation’s most important collections,” said gallery owner and director Virginia Miller. “Each has spent years perfecting a highly personal technique and offers a unique visual statement.” Michelle Concepción’s soft, dreamy shapes with surfaces that appear deeply coruscated appear to be floating in deep space or a bottomless abyss. Florian Depenthal, a glider pilot, whose exuberant palette includes colors he mixes from a cache of fluorescent pigments, says some of his works are inspired by his airborne glimpses of the reflecting and absorbent planes of the earth’s surface. Aaron Karp’s multihued, mosaic-like painting surfaces shimmer with motion, inspired by tiled domes of the Alhambra. Andy Moses’ masterful use of special aerospace paints presents surfaces that refract into a different color as the light source changes. According to critic Ed McCormack, Linda Touby’s paintings “suggest the erosion that time has wrought upon the surfaces of Giotto’s great frescoes.”

Girl from Cali In "Girl From Cali", a solo exhibition by Cecilia Moreno-Yaghoubi, the artist's assemblages and mixed media works depict religious, political and gender issues inspired by her life experiences, memories, and personal journey from Colombia to the United States. Using found objects and eerie castaway dolls, Cecilia’s art is intensely revealing, provoking both thought and dialogue. “I’ve always been drawn to objects tossed aside by others because of my own feelings of displacement,” saidCecilia. “As an immigrant, I have often struggled with ideas of belonging, even after living in the U.S. for more than 40 years.” This exhibition at the Consulate of Colombia rootsCecilia’s work in a Latin Diaspora where people save, fix or recycle almost everything for another use and where socio-cultural stigmas are ever-present. "Girl From Cali" runs through the month of October and is free and open the public.

His commissioned work as the creator of two of Miami’s most important landmarks, “The Tequesta Family” at the Brickell Avenue Bridge and “El Centinela del Rio” at the entrance of the Miami River in Brickell Key, denotes his more classical and figurative style. The works exhibited at the Gallery are modern, where Carbonell searches for the essence of the form and the absence of detail while giving a sense of monumentality to his work.
