Says Zuckerman: “The work represented in TIME MACHINE is my version of being a ‘kid in a candy store,’ such was the experience of discovery, magic and promise. As a young, shy, inhibited boy, the camera early on held great appeal to me. It was a magic box with the power to create images, and it had the power, for me, to access and connect the inner and the outer worlds. Most of these images have been filed away for decades, and now, as I reconnect with them, I find that they have taken on an added dimension of power and meaning.”

For the exhibition Luna Park, Alejandra von Hartz Gallery has invited six Miami artists to produce functional lighting objects and/or realistic schemes for ambient illumination. In other words, they have been invited not so much to produce artsy, one-of-a-kind lamps as to develop well-thought prototypes that can be mass-produce and exist in the world much like any other designed object must. The artists have been invited to consider all the possibilities that are opened by any number of vibrant spaces--from the family room to the corporate lobby, from the themed club or restaurant to the university dorm, from the corner cafeteria to the outdoor promenade--that exist beyond the safe-zones through which art objects usually circulate.
Along with producing prototypes, the artists have been invited to consider the way in which their works will be presented. Display itself is being considered here as an active element in the way that objects go out into the world, in the way that an initial context determines the many other contexts that they may potentially exist in.

This time we are bringing works by Carlos Estevez, Francis Acea, Joe Ramiro Garcia, Tracey Snelling, Pablo Soria, Rusty Scruby, William Cannings, Kadir Lopez, The Merger, Ted Larsen and Yue Minjun.

The second summer exhibition will have a historic character and will explore the period known as Las Vanguardias in Cuban Art. From July 11 to August 13 we will present Las Vanguardias Cubanas, an opportunity to see a selection of rare pieces from this period from the extensive gallery inventory.
The gallery will be closed for summer vacation From August 16 to September 1, reopening in time for the art season with the exhibition of Gustavo Acosta and Carlos Gonzalez (September 5-October 3), featuring the paintings of Gustavo Acosta and the sculptures of Carlos Gonzalez .

Linda CopelandArtist in ResidenceCopeland’s art is all about expressing energy. Her paintings lack familiar objects and as a result she invites the viewer to feel the painting emotionally. Rather than trying to interpret the painting, she would like you to simply enjoy the experience, feel the energy and see the beauty. Her process is very physical and it is this form of both bodily and emotional intensity that inspires her. She believes that in our daily life we personally interpret what we see to define the experience we have. Each of us can look at the same object and see something different based on our level of consciousness.
All the art you will view in her gallery studio has the impression of spontaneity. In the first room, you’ll find paintings that use an “all over” technique – there is no definable composition. In the other room is a brand new series called Moondust.

By Any Means is a performance-based video and a site-specific sculpture in which the physicality of architecture and sculpture is pitted against the female body and will. It is the first exhibition at Locust Projects' new location in Miami's Design District.
Gilmore is the sole protagonist in her single-channel videos, where she sets up a difficult physical task to overcome. The videos, always filmed in private, are destructive, comedic and only attempted once. For By Any Means, 2009, Gilmore, donned in feminine dress and heels, will dig, build and climb her way out of a dirt-filled wooden sculpture. The large-scale sculpture will be installed in Locust Projects’ adjacent courtyard and will remain on view for the duration of the exhibition.
The artist will also present three recent video-based works in this exhibition.
Summer: TMSister in situMiami-based collaborative TM Sisters are the winners of the second Hilger Artist Project Award. In July, the artists begin their two-month transformation of Locust Projects’ space for a site-specific installation and performance opening in the fall. Jamali's method of painting is its own unique chapter in the history of contemporary art. He paints out of doors, applying paint in a meditative dance, like the Sufi mystic's swirling prayer to God. He builds up his intense and complex surfaces over time, allowing the natural elements to interact with the paint and canvas. It often feels as if time and nature, not the artist, had created these deeply etched and layered surfaces. Jamali's method brings to new fruition what Donald Kuspit calls "the unconscious mystical meaning of modernist surface."
The Galleries continue to present Shie Moreno’s artwork of individual expression and the display of noted designer Andrew Muggleton’s 2009 furniture collection.

Until June 20Curtis Lafollette Metal shows mastery of material. It is very much about extraordinary interpretation of ordinary, normally mundane items and is indicative of his work with other such objects such as bud vases, hollowware, and flatware. Though clearly an amazing metal-smith and master of his craft, Curtis is perhaps better described as a sculptor first and foremost.
His work turns on its head the very question of form vs function and shatters the boundaries between what were seemingly disparate ideals. It's not easy to reinvent the tea-pot but Curtis has.
Gallery Walk Opening Saturday July 11, 7 - 10From June 25 to July 18Jim Pollock : A Phantasy Pheast. Works 1989 - 2009Legendary for creating the visual imagery for the cult status band Phish, comes to 101/exhibit to reveal for the first time a complete retrospective on his two-decade plus career. Jim Pollock: A Phantasy Pheast will not only lead his fans through a chronological history of Pollock’s life as an artist, but it will also reveal his process.
Pollock will be filmed and broadcast live in streaming video via www.101exhibit.com printing a limited edition run of a print designed specifically for this exhibition.
