Miami City Ballet has relaunched its popular young professionals group, Upper Room, as it opens its landmark 30th Anniversary Season.

MCB’s Upper Room is an affinity giving circle of dynamic young patrons who are passionate about supporting MCB’s mission of presenting the best of dance and dance education, and cultivating interest and excitement for ballet among South Florida’s growing class of young professionals. Members of MCB’s Upper Room receive a variety of unique and exciting benefits, including complimentary tickets during the season and invitations to special events throughout the year, where they will have social and business networking opportunities, exclusive access to the MCB dancers, and the opportunity to engage in philanthropic activities.

To kick off the season and celebrate its relaunch, Upper Room members and guests are invited to MCB’s Miami Beach studios to go behind the scenes with MCB’s Artistic Director, Lourdes Lopez, dancers and special guests at Open Barre: Dance + Design on October 29 for an in-depth discussion of the confluence of ballet and the visual arts. Special guests include Tanya Williams Wetenhall, fashion and costume historian, and Michele Oka Doner, an internationally acclaimed, Miami-born visual artist and the set and costume designer for MCB’s new production of George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which will premiere in Miami in March 2016. Following the program, Upper Room members and guests will enjoy an intimate party at Klima in Miami Beach, a new restaurant and bar inspired by contemporary gastronomy from Barcelona. They will mingle with MCB dancers while celebrating with complimentary beverages, bites and music.

Adventures in Miami :: South Beach Food Tour

As Miami "young professionals"...we hardly make the trek to South Beach anymore.
Gone are the days when we lived at the Waverly and somehow partied every night and managed to go to work and school full time. Today...annoyed by traffic, dilapidated bridges, years of ongoing road construction, parking nightmares, etc...it's been easier for us to find something else to do on the mainland. Thankfully with Uber in town, we've slowly been making our way back to tourist central South Beach...

our group!
ropa vieja

We partnered with Vimbly to attend Miami Culinary Tours' South Beach Food Tour.
The South Beach Food Tour occurs daily at Noon and 5pm for a 2.5 hour tour strolling around South Beach, learning history and sampling food for $59. Signing up for the tour through Vimbly's website is easy and communication and confirmations are sent right away.

Our tour guide, Jennifer, was an excellent and knowledgeable host who guided our group of locals and tourists through Washington Ave., Ocean Drive and Espanola Way.
Along our stroll we learned about the architectural and development history of the area, and stopped at six eateries. Our samples included churros, empanadas, ropa vieja, a Moroccan dish, gelato and more. Everything we sampled was divine, and as Miamians, we had never been to any of the restaurants before! It was a great experience to play tourists for the afternoon, learn some history, and try new spots! You will have to experience their tour for yourself to learn more about South Beach and sample some great eats! Sign up for the tour with Vimbly and receive $10 off! Click HERE!

The world's first festival dedicated entirely to rosé wines and champagne announces its first Miami event, scheduled for January 30-February 1, 2015, at The Miami Beach EDITION.

With an international lineup of wineries such as Château d’Esclans (Provence, France), Château Minuty (Provence, France), Vie Vité (Provence, France), Champagne Pommery (Champagne, France), Val d’Orbieu Americas (South of France), Wines of Rioja (Spain), Wines of Navarra (Spain), Mulderbosch (South Africa)and Miguel Torres (Chile), La Nuit en Rosé in Miami will bring to life the stylish ethos that rosé wines embody.

“Rosé is more than just a wine category, it is a way of life and that’s what unique about rosé,” says Pierrick Bouquet, president of ABLE and co-creator of La Nuit en Rosé. “Rosé has made itself inseparable from a summer gathering, a pool party or a barbecue. Close your eyes and sip rosé, you’re immediately transported into a summer paradise. Drinking rosé is the epitome of chic! ”

La Nuit en Rosé Miami will offer a variety of ways to celebrate pink wine: Start with a VIP Rosé Wine Pairing Dinner on La Vista Terrace at The Miami Beach EDITION, overlooking the ocean and featuring an exclusive menu from the Matador Room by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, presented by media sponsor Wine Enthusiast Media and followed by both media/trade and consumer daytime and evening events. The VIP dinner is specifically designed to showcase the elegance of the wines alongside an exceptional dinner and in the company of some of the people behind the world’s finest rosé wines. The wines for the evening will be Chateau d’Esclans’ “Whispering Angel” Rosé, Château d'Esclans’ Rosé, Château d'Esclans’ “Les Clans”Rosé, and Château d'Esclans’ “Garrus” Rosé. Art Basel ::: Day Two

Traffic, rain and rush hour. The winning combination to be late in Miami. We missed our first event last night due to all the red light magic, but ended up having drinks at Michelle Bernstein's new restaurant, Seagrape, at The Thompson Hotel. Catching up over drinks and a celebrity spotting of Owen Wilson made up for the show we missed!

Ubering on to the next spot...we visited Concept Art Fair aboard the SeaFair megayacht docked in front of the Intercontinental Hotel in Downtown Miami. The concept of Concept is to provide a luxurious art experience with 22 carefully selected dealers, along with multiple outdoor decks to relax and enjoy the city views.

home-seafair
"Tents, you think camping...yachts though!"

Whoever said that was right on. Concept Art Fair is a small fair to visit with beautiful pieces presented well. The ship doesn't get as crowded as the tented fairs so you can enjoy exploring, meeting the artists, having conversations with the dealers, and actually getting a drink quickly without having a stampede of people all up in your ish.

A few feet from the ship, in Bayfront Park, you will find the igloo like dome which features a short film 'Pull of the Moon' produced by the Navajo Nation and Chinese artist/activist, Ai Wei Wei. It's a moving piece that portrays the beauty of Coyote Canyon in New Mexico, as well as the struggles of the Seminole Indians to remain undefeated from the white man.
(Also similar to Ai Wei Wei's struggles with his own government....)

Exhibition Facts:
Concept Art Fair: runs through Sunday 12/7
Pull of the Moon: runs through Sunday 12/7

BIRDMAN (or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance) is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Michael Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play. In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.

BIRDMAN centers on one-time action hero Riggan Thomson (Keaton), who attempts to be taken seriously as an artist by staging his own adaptation of Raymond Carver’s What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. Thomson, however, must contend with a resentful daughter (Stone), a scene-hogging narcissist (Norton), a vulnerable actress (Watts), and an unhinged girlfriend (Riseborough) for co-stars, a manager who is coming undone (Galifianikis), as well as his own inner demon—the superhero that brought him fame, BIRDMAN.
