Happy Hour

It’s Friday, so duh it’s time for happy hour.  You’ve probably felt like crap today after you were overly ambitious last night about stickin’ it to the man.  Waaaa.  Get over it.  Come 5 o’clock (on the dot, in my drop top, cruisin the streets) your body will bounce back and your mind will rally.  Trust.  So, hit the streets (not in a turning tricks sort of way) cause BrickGals has rounded up the hood’s top Friday Happy Hours.  Check it. (Vanilla Ice style).
Brother Jimmy’s:  The newest BBQ joint/sports bar in Brickell features Free Pig Roast Friday’s!! 4-7pm for free pig and Happy Hour specials including $2 drafts and $3 cocktails!!  Finger licking good!
Burger N Beer Joint: From 3-7pm, BNB features a plethora of HH specials, including beers starting at $2.50, $3 glasses of house wine and $4.50 well cocktails.  $3 Food Plates include Prime Angus Sliders (2), Chicken Tender Bucket, Mini Corn Dog Bucket, Zucchini Fry Bucket, Sweet Potato Fry Bucket, Skinny Fry Bucket, and Fried Dill Pickle Bucket.
Doraku Sushi:  South Beach’s long time fav, Doraku Sushi opened in Brickell earlier this year.  They offer just as good of a HH from 5-7 daily that includes beers/sakes/wines starting at $3 and food (especially the delectable sweet & spicy edamane) starting at $2.
Dominique Bistro: Authentic French cuisine by day, European electro lounge at night, Dominique Bistro features Happy Hour M-F from 5pm to 8pm.  Half off cocktails, $3 beer and Veuve Clicquot Beat the Clock help the BrickGals dance the night away.
Fado:  With a Brickell Happy Hour Menu to die for, Fado also offers perfect pints of Smithwicks and Harp, shots like their infamous Pickleback, Irish Breakfast Shot and more for just $5 from 5 – 8 pm.  Food deals are good too - $3, $4 and $5 small plates.  I’ve heard from an inside source that some very date-able men frequent this spot on FriDaze.
Brickell Irish Pub: Friday Happy Hour Unplugged (4-8 pm) features $5 Well drinks and $4 Draft beer 7 days a week.  Ask for Lucas… he’s a stud.
Tobacco Road Happy Hour
Segafredo: This saucy hot spot is serving up specialty drinks and bites from 4-8.  If you love the tall hot Latin men, here. Bam.
El Vato: Tell Frida to leave her unibrow at home because Vato has the longest HH of the bunch (12-8 daily)!  Get a little loco.
Balans: Love sitting outside people watching?  This classy joint offers the best view of all the sweet somethings going down in the hood.  From 3 – 8pm, beers ($3), wine ($5), and cocktails and martinis ($6.95) make the scene of this cafe.
Edge, Steak & Bar: Half off Small Bites on bar menu and $1 East Coast Oysters with mojo mignonette in addition to 50% off draft beer, well cocktails, specialty cocktails, iconoclast chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and lunettea prosecco make take this Happy Hour high class. 3-7 pm daily.

Classic konpa from legendary band Les Freres Dejean, and a fiery opening set by rara rockers Empress Addi.  Sounds good! In the gallery, The Big Picture exhibition with IPC Visual Labl.  Delicious Haitian food, cold Prestige beer, activities to keep the kids busy, and you have a Big Night.
  • Les Freres Dejean take us directly to the golden age of konpa music.  Formed in Haiti in 1963 by Lyonel Dejean, the group was originally called The Brothers of Petionville, playing elegant dance parties and concerts alongside their colleagues in other legendary orchestras of the day, the Shleu Shleu All Stars, The Ambassadors and more. They forged a new rhythm from their shared love of big band jazz, Haiti's rich musical heritage and Caribbean dance rhythms like merengue and Cuban son.  The group have become revered statesmen of the konpa genre, yet still promise to bring the crowd to their feet dancing in concert.
  • Empress Addi is a singer whose group Rara Rock, Haitian roots-rock music, is influenced by her life as a mother, writer, artist and student. She has been singing since the age of two, and also has dabbled in radio, TV and is now engulfed in her first love, music. Her passion for social justice and humanity has made her an unconventional deviant from pop culture. Her live shows become platforms to promote self-awareness and love for self and all, with soul-provoking melodies

DEFYING GRAVITY ONE AIRCRAFT AT A TIME:
RED BULL FLUGTAG RETURNS TO MIAMI
Macintosh HD:private:var:folders:4e:4ewMpiIWFQelSXxhpMcslU++0YE:-Tmp-:TemporaryItems:~b473413.TMP

What happens before and after takeoff is optional, but landing is mandatory. Red Bull Flugtag is soaring into Miami this fall for the first time since 2010, and applications are now being accepted from avid aviators throughout the Southeast. Bayfront Park will welcome thousands of South Florida residents and visitors to its beautiful waterfront to see the flights and follies of Red Bull Flugtag on Saturday, Nov. 3. Flugtag, German for “flying day,” is a competition that dares the brave and tests the brainy to design, build and pilot homemade aircrafts off a 30-foot high ramp in hopes of achieving human-powered flight. Forty teams will be chosen to test their “wiiings” and compete in the flying spectacle that awes millions around the world.

Past applicants have created crafts representing everything the imagination can bring to life, from fairy tales and comic book characters to iPhones and cheeseburgers. Entry is now open through September 1, 2012, and applications can be submitted online at redbullflugtagusa.com or via snail-mail. Interested teams should draw up their blueprints of an imaginative craft and prepare to fly…at least for a few seconds.

PREPARE FOR TAKEOFF
Entrants must compile a team of no more than five people – four flight crew members and one pilot – to create a unique flying contraption concept. While distance is important, creativity and showmanship are necessary to impress the judges.  These criteria have inspired such outrageous crafts as a towering Pope-mobile, an airborne outhouse, gangsters, hotdogs and a replica of Santa and his flying sleigh.

While the sky may be the limit on creativity, there are still a few flight regulations. All aircrafts must be entirely human-powered – no motors or stored energy such as slingshots or catapults – and cannot exceed 450 pounds (including the pilot). Remember that size does matter, and all crafts must be less than 30 feet wide.

Grove Cares is pleased to announce that on Saturday August 25, 2015 it will once again be hosting its annual Charity Fundraiser, FESTIDAN, at Peacock Park in Coconut Grove, Florida. The event benefits the ALS foundation which is a foundation founded to help fund scientific research to find a cure for the disease commonly known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”.

The event consists of performances by four (4) live musical acts on a sound stage. We are please to announce this year that DJ Ethics, Outereach, Day Music Died, and Problem Kids will be performing. Guests are encouraged to come to the event with all their tailgating needs as the event’s slogan is “This is Tailgating!”. The event will be held on August 25, 2012 from 2 o’clock p.m. until 10 o’clock p.m. with the last act scheduled to take the stage at 8. The event is open to members of the public 21 years of age and older. In exchange for a $30.00 donation at the door, or $25.00 prepaid at www.festidan.com, guests are provided with a wrist band giving them admission to the event and free beer all day provided by the event sponsors.

Being that the event is outdoors and in the middle of August, the event has a very “T-Shirt & Sandal” vibe to it which coincides well with the tropical atmosphere of Coconut Grove. This is the sixth year the event is being held and Grove Cares Board Members anticipate that this will be our most successful event to date due to the overwhelming support the event has received from the community. For pictures of previous years and more information, please visit
www.festidan.com

Guests are encouraged to bring all items they would bring to a tailgate. The following list should help guests who will be tailgating:

1) Water - bring plenty - There will be free beer but you'll need
water. It's going to be HOT!!!!!
2) Tents (the tailgating type) or other source of shade and protection in the event of rain
